During his rookie season, Jones averaged 14 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals to earn 1994-95 All-Rookie First Team honors and to finish fourth in the. It is why Jones speaks so often about reconnecting this team with an Australian. Meanwhile, young flyhalf Carter Gordon and captain Tate McDermott confirmed themselves as the team’s first-choice halves combination, despite Gordon missing a crucial penalty in the second half, hitting the posts in what proved a costly error. After starring at Temple University, Eddie Jones looked to bring his incredible skills to the NBA when the Los Angeles Lakers drafted him with the tenth pick of the 1994 NBA Draft. Today, more traditional greeting or welcoming terms are encouraged for tourists to better understand and to relate to the local people. That welcoming song, with some local variations including the informal name of the "Jambo! Jambo!", is sometimes used to greet visitors to Kenya. " Jambo Bwana!" (translated as "Hello Mister!"), is also notably one of the best internationally known Kenyan hotel pop songs. Postcolonial use Īfter independence and over a half century of Independence, many still use the word "Jambo!" And some enterprising East Africans use the old imperialist welcoming phrase "Jambo Bwana!" as a welcome greeting seeking tourist dollars. In many ways in East Africa the combined phrase "Jambo Bwana!" (Hello, Master!) became viewed as "Hello, Slave Driver" or "Hello, Slave Master" by those seeking independence especially in Colonial East Africa. But the historical reality of it was simply "Master." The British dictionary or older English usage refers the word "Master" as a male person who is in charge of others or of a task Large British sailing ships, for example, typically had both a captain and a sailing master, the latter in charge of the detailed handling of the ship. Briefly, the word today refers to "Mister" or big boss or an important person, and is occasionally used in a derogatory manner. Colonial use ĭuring the European " Scramble for Africa" which brought a period of Imperialism and East African European colonialism, the Swahili word " Bwana" was used to refer to the Europeans. It was used by traders from India, China and other lands before the Portuguese Vasco da Gama visited the area in 1498. While similar in use to the English word "hello," it really meant to come and settle one's affairs in the business sense. While less formal, it is in widespread use in East Africa and beyond. The spoken word "Jambo" was once used as a greeting among traders of the Swahili coast of southeast Africa. Secondary meanings include dealing with a thing, issue or matter. Įtymologically it is from amba (-amba) meaning to say. Jambo primarily means 'affair', in the sense of commercial, professional, public or personal business. Specifically, Jambo is a Swahili language word that belongs to noun classes 5-6 for "collectives". It is similar in meaning to the English word Hello. Jambo is a Swahili greeting or salutation. For other uses, see Jambo (disambiguation). "Though at the same time when you look at all the work done I feel that entire first game feels fresh and new. (Image credit: EA / Bioware.) What about cut content? However, he's subsequently gone on to say that some aspects have been tweaked, such as Mass Effect 2's somewhat unforgiving morality system. So what this was about was fidelity, taking off some of the edges people would expect."Īs for changes to the narrative and character interactions, Walters says "we considered things like story and character but that's so much a part of your experience and memory of this that we took that off the table pretty quick." An example would be the Unreal Engine 3 scripting language Kismet, there's no copy-paste equivalent to that, so every moment, every scene would essentially have to be redone from scratch and we'd take away the essence of what the trilogy was. "Quite early we spoke to people and Epic and asked what would this look like if we took it into Unreal Engine 4, and it quickly became clear that that jump would really change fundamentally what the trilogy was, and how it felt, how it played. "It quickly became this archaeological discovery, pulling things out one of the jokes I'd make, we'd talk about restoring a beautiful beloved car, but then it quickly turned into sure, if that car was buried in cement, and every time you tried to clear off some of the cement you were worried about dinging the paint or ripping off a mirror." "One of the first questions is, if we're remastering this, what does that look like, and what does it mean to us," says Mac Walters, Mass Effect Legendary Edition's project director and a longtime BioWare developer. At one point there were discussions about pursuing a more ambitious route, technologically speaking, but that would have put BioWare in a position where, essentially, the games were being rebuilt from scratch. That aside, there are no big changes to the adventure itself. I always hated the way this thing drove, so good news. Finally, and perhaps most-wanted of all, the handling of the Tonka-like Mako surface vehicle has been overhauled. On the last point, for example, you'd commonly take cover in that game and get a brief view of the interior of Shepard's skull: no more. The game's UI and various interfaces have been overhauled, and combat and exploration brought in-line with the sequels' improvements: better aiming, squad controls, team AI, and camera positioning. This makes sense, as the first game was more of an RPG and the sequels greatly improved the combat: so Mass Effect 1 is receiving something of a rework. The original Mass Effect game has received a more substantial touching-up than Mass Effect 2 and 3, primarily around the combat system and UI. We're still working on an in-depth technical analysis and review, so we'll have more to say soon. Now that the remasters are out, players are putting them to the test: Many of the Steam user reviews are positive so far, although there are some technical complaints. (Image credit: EA / Bioware.) Is Mass Effect Legendary Edition worth it? Finally, head through the last door in this room and step on the elevator. Return to the room and go through the next door, where you'll find a Medpack. Head out the first door to the right and kill the Jedi, and edge around the platform to find a shield station. Otherwise, head through the door and proceed with the killing. If you care to jump to it, there is a Shield on the ledge to the left. Head outside to the small platform for a Medpack, then return inside and go through the next door. Kill everyone— Jedi, armored guys, officers, droids. Kill the Imperials inside and get on the elevator through the doors. Grab and throw the Jedi off of the next bridge, and head inside the opposite building. Once they die, head through the next door. Take them on one by one… you can even lure them outside and toss them in the drink. Take it and return to the door in the other building. If you follow the path around to the opposite building, you can grab some more Rocket Ammo. Keep moving around the structure until you come to the other side of the fractured bridge. Explore the building and recharge your Stouker, find some Shields and more. Grab the Medpack and dropped weapon here, then return to the bridge.įrom the end of the bridge, leap down to the rock in the lava, then jump again to the bank to the left. Once they all drop, follow the right rock face to the large open door ahead. Move to the edge of the broken bridge and use this vantage point to take down the various armored enemies scattered between the buildings ahead. Exiting the next door yields a Checkpoint. Out on the bridge, dispatch the pair of Jedi and continue across. Slay him and continue up, where you'll meet another hovering trooper. Lure them back down into the main room and destroy them, then scale the stairs again. Continue around to the stairs, where you'll meet a Jedi. Use it on the locked door.Įnter through the front door to trigger a Checkpoint. Move around the hallway and slay the Imperial officers to grab the Security Key. Follow the path to a grate, then slice through it and drop into the room below. Jump up on it and use it to reach the glassed-in area above. Destroy the Imperials, then Force push the large crate. In the upstairs chamber, it's more of the same. Kill them if you want, or just run through and get on the elevator. Step through the doorway to face several Imperials and a pair of lethal Jedi. On the bridge, use the choke n' chuck method to knock the two Jedi and cloaked buffoon off, then proceed forward and deal with the troopers. Then go back inside and head left to another door that leads outside. Step out of the door nearest the crates to grab a Shield. Ride it, and eliminate the goons in the room you arrive at. As you enter the building, you'll notice a stormtrooper has conveniently opened a door for you. The door ahead is locked, so head left and trip the lever here to extend the main walkway to the Imperial Power Facility. Shoot down the heavy hitter at the opposite end, and proceed across. Follow it down and trip the lever at the end of the path. The elevator doesn't work, so exit and go out the back door. Enter the glass door inside and kill the lone guard. Step inside and slay the imperials within the first power room. Head toward the guarded door and drop the hovering patrol and stormtroopers who guard it, then step inside the facility. Although some gaps appear in its historical whereabouts, the Shroud has maintained a consistent presence.Īfter Robert de Clari’s testimony, the next historical citing places the Shroud in France, having passed to the possession of the De Charny family of Lirey. In August, 1203, Robert de Clari, a French crusader, reported seeing the Shroud in Constantinople. King Louis VII of France venerated the shroud in Constantinople in 1147. Documentation shows that the Shroud indeed was displayed in the cities of Jerusalem, Edessa (500) and Constantinople (1092). Of course, the Shroud is believed to be the burial cloth used by Joseph of Arimathaea to wrap the body of Jesus for burial. Part of the uncertainty as to the authenticity of the Shroud arises from its historical record. In 1983, the Savoy family willed the Shroud to the Holy Father with the Archbishop of Turin serving as the Pontifical Guardian for the Conservation and Veneration of the Holy Shroud. Nevertheless, the Church has been the official guardian of the Shroud for the House of Savoy, the former ruling family of Italy. Salvation is that which is given to us by Christ” ( Columbia, June 1998). Salvation is not in the Shroud, even if it truly wrapped the martyred body of Jesus, even if it was mysteriously given by God to His Church. As Cardinal Saldarini of Turin stated, “It’s not Christ, but something that brings us back to him. However, to believe that the Shroud is the actual burial cloth of the Lord is not a matter of faith. Pope Pius XII stated, “A precious treasure, the Holy Shroud, which displays, both to move and comfort us, the image of the lifeless body and tortured face of Christ.” And Pope Blessed John XXIII declared, “ Digitus Dei est hic” (“The finger of God is here”). His predecessors have also viewed the Shroud favorably. The Holy Father has visited the Shroud both in 1978 and most recently in June, 1998. For instance, in 1980, the Holy Father stated, “The Holy Shroud, the most splendid relic of the passion and the resurrection.” Almost ten years later, in April, 1989, he was asked by reporters during an in-flight press conference on the way to Madagascar about the Shroud, and he responded, “It certainly is a relic!” Again, almost ten years later, when asked if the Shroud was genuine, the Pope said, “I think it is!” (as reported in Columbia, 1998). Without declaring its authenticity, Pope John Paul II has clearly attested to the value of the Shroud. Many of the faithful sincerely believe that the Shroud of Turin is the actual burial cloth of our Lord, Jesus Christ. You may have to select a menu option or click a button. There are some tools that claim to be able to take you consciously into delta, however this would take a lot of practice (from my 3 years + experience). In short, there are lots of suggestions that delta brain waves are incredibly beneficial for us - we just don't know why exactly. Then we only experience delta when we are in a deep, dreamless sleep - until it's time for us to die, in which case it's back to delta for the journey. After that, unfortunately we tend to grow up and start to use our brains for other purposes, and mysteriously forget how to access it consciously any more. We experience delta brain waves in the womb, and then loads through infancy. Have a look at the binaural beat research for the stats. It's like we're just off somewhere else.ĩ) It is linked with production of human growth hormone, serotonin, DHEA and lots of other "good" chemicals in the body, which binaural beats and isochronic tones are also good at doing so too. This is the level that even Zen Masters reportedly find difficult to maintain, so you'll be out-Zen'ing the pros if you manage to pull it off.Ĩ) It is a seemingly unconscious state - there is very little recall of memory from people who have been experiencing delta brain waves. I don't think I've managed it yet, but if you're up for a challenge, check them out and have a go yourself. There are some claims - notably from tools like Brain Evolution System and Holosync - that it is possible to reach this state and remain conscious in delta. nice to know, I suppose.ħ) We get delta waves when we are in a deep, non-dreaming sleep. I can't really remember too much of that period, personally, so I'll take their word for it.Ħ) Before we die, delta brain waves are the final waves that we produce. Nice.ĥ) During infancy, from around 3 months to 1 year (approximately - there's a few conflicting studies here) delta brain waves are the dominant level of brain wave activity. That baby will be pretty damn chilled out. Google it and have a look for yourself, before dismissing it out of hand :)Ĥ) In the final stages of pregnancy, the baby in the womb has delta brain waves as its dominant state. Ahem.ģ) Many people believe that delta brain waves provide access to God, "Infinite Intelligence", or the "Collective Unconscious" mind. Delta Brain Waves - Need to Knowġ) It is VERY rare to remain conscious in this state, so it's very mysterious as to what our brains are actually up to when they are producing delta waves.Ģ) It is our LOWEST level of brain wave activity - any lower and we are "brain dead". There are some products that come pretty close though (see below).Īnyway, here's nine things you may not have known about delta brain waves. I'n fact, Ive read that even Zen Masters have difficulty staying awake at this low level. Please note - it is *very* unlikely that brain wave entrainment tools will help you to remain conscious in the delta state anytime soon (well, I've been trying for quite a while, at least, and I haven't heard of many people who can). This article will introduce a few of the saner and crazier theories, to give you an idea of what's going on inside that brain of yours when it drops down into delta. What we do know is that delta brain waves occur between the frequency of 0.5 - 4Hz, and are the brain waves we experience during deep, dreamless sleep.īecause there is no (or very little) recall from test subjects about what delta feels like, there is lots of speculation as to what actually happens when your brain produces delta brain waves. Frankly, delta is a pretty mysterious place to be.
